Pituitary gland

The pituitary gland, or hypophysis, is a pea-sized endocrine gland located at the base of the brain in the sella turcica. Often called the "master gland," it regulates other endocrine organs. The anterior pituitary (adenohypophysis) secretes tropic hormones (e.g., TSH, ACTH, FSH, LH, GH, Prolactin). The posterior pituitary (neurohypophysis) stores and releases oxytocin and vasopressin (ADH) produced by the hypothalamus.
