Vagina

The vagina is a fibromuscular, elastic canal that extends from the cervix of the uterus to the external vaginal opening. It serves as the female copulatory organ, the birth canal during parturition, and the passageway for menstrual flow. Its acidic environment, maintained by Lactobacillus species, provides a defense against pathogens. Its walls are lined with stratified squamous epithelium and are highly distensible.
