Endothelial cells

Endothelial cells form a single layer (the endothelium) lining the interior surface of all blood and lymphatic vessels. They are more than a passive barrier; they actively regulate vascular tone, blood clotting (hemostasis), inflammation, immune cell trafficking, and angiogenesis. They produce key molecules like nitric oxide (vasodilation), endothelin-1 (vasoconstriction), and von Willebrand factor. Dysfunction is central to cardiovascular diseases.
