Medulla oblongata

The medulla oblongata is the lowest part of the brainstem, connecting to the spinal cord. It houses vital autonomic control centers essential for survival. These centers regulate involuntary functions such as heart rate (cardiac center), blood pressure (vasomotor center), and the rhythm of breathing (respiratory center). It also serves as a conduit for motor and sensory tracts crossing between the brain and body.
