Pons

The pons is a prominent bulge on the brainstem, situated above the medulla and below the midbrain. Its name means "bridge," reflecting its role in connecting different brain regions. It contains tracts that link the cerebellum to the cerebrum, aiding in movement coordination. It also houses nuclei for several cranial nerves and contains the pneumotaxic center, which helps regulate the respiratory rate initiated by the medulla.
