Pre-hypertrophic chondrocytes

A transitional state in the growth plate between proliferating and hypertrophic chondrocytes. They have stopped dividing and begin to express early markers of hypertrophy, such as Indian hedgehog (Ihh), which is a key signaling molecule that regulates the pace of endochondral ossification and coordinates chondrocyte differentiation with osteoblast recruitment.
