Tissue Overview
The occipital lobe is the most posterior region of the cerebrum and is exclusively dedicated to visual processing. It contains the primary visual cortex (V1), which receives raw sensory input from the eyes via the thalamus. Subsequent visual association areas interpret this data, enabling functions like object recognition, color perception, motion detection, and spatial navigation. It is the brain's central hub for making sense of what we see.
