Prostate progenitor cells

These are stem/progenitor cells within the prostate gland responsible for its development, maintenance, and regeneration. They are thought to reside in both the basal and luminal compartments. They can self-renew and give rise to the differentiated secretory luminal cells, basal cells, and neuroendocrine cells. Their dysregulation is implicated in benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and prostate cancer.
