Species Overview
A small lizard (family Dactyloidae) native to Cuba and the Bahamas, now one of the most successful invasive reptiles in the world. Adults measure 13โ21 cm total length. Males have a brown body with lighter patterning and a bright red-orange dewlap with a yellow border; females are brown with a dorsal pattern of diamonds or chevrons and a lighter mid-dorsal stripe. They are more terrestrial than green anoles, typically found on lower perches, fences, and the ground. They are diurnal insectivores. Introduced to Florida in the 1880s, they have since spread across the southeastern US, Hawaii, and many other regions. They competitively displace native anoles (e.g., A. carolinensis) to higher, less optimal perchesโa documented example of real-time character displacement. Females lay one egg every 1โ2 weeks throughout the breeding season; incubation: ~28โ40 days. They are extensively studied in ecology, invasion biology, and evolutionary ecology, particularly regarding adaptive radiation and interspecific interactions. Lifespan: 3โ5 years. IUCN: Least Concern (native range).

Provisional atlas release
This provisional release contains 10,000 retina cells from a single published dataset. Cell-type labels follow the source publication's annotations (a large fraction is uncharacterized) and have not yet been standardized to the LACA cell-type vocabulary. Gene-expression search is unavailable for this release.
